Curriculum Outline
I have been teaching private drum lessons at Attina's Music Store in
Fayetteville since January 2000. Ages I teach usually range from 10 year olds
to adults. I generally do not teach younger than 10 years of age, due to their
shorter attention span. I have been known to make an occasional exception
after interview, but I usually recommend starting out the younger children with
a practice pad, drumsticks and beginning drum instruction video or DVD to
see if their interest remains. With real young children (6 or younger) I
generally suggest looking for a Kindermusic program in your area. These
types of programs are very rhythm and percussion oriented and have proven
to be very successful with that age group.
The most common question I get from students and parents is “How much
should I (he/she) practice?” My answer is that it depends on each student.
What you practice and how much you practice will be determined by your level
of development. In the beginning I recommend 30 minutes a day reviewing all
material covered in the previous week’s lesson in order to reinforce and
develop the concepts and techniques learned. As the student progresses
and the material becomes inevitably more challenging, more quality practice
time will be necessary. It’s important to practice everyday (with an occasional
day off), so as not to forget your lesson for each week and hopefully keep
improving. I suggest making drum practice part of your daily homework
routine. By practicing everyday, it will become a regular habit and you will get
the most out of the lessons.
Please feel free to email me with questions or for more information, and be
sure to include the best email address and daytime phone number to contact
you.
